“Year 2020: Yours and Mine”
Your isolation is my solitude. Your solitude is my isolation.
In a year of quarantine life and social distancing, we’re all doing our best to adapt to the new normal. And when asked in the 2020 survey, “What do you need right now and aren’t communicating,” the top answers were:
Human interaction
2. Alone time
Two sides of the same coin. Mind blown.
I must confess that while in quarantine, I had unknowingly become confined to my own narrative. However, this opened my eyes back up. As an extrovert with no kids or nearby family, my experience of 2020 has been incredibly lonely. Many others would agree. However, there’s another perspective - that of parents homeschooling their kids, people living in a full house and medical professionals working around the clock, to name a few. For many, 2020 has been the year they struggled to find time for themselves at all. And while they yearn for the luxury of space, others are being overwhelmed by it.
One person’s struggle is someone else’s dream, and I set out to express this dichotomy through color, expressive typography and photography. If anything, this series is a record of an experience we collectively shared, but hopefully you will get something deeper from it too.
